Old John Neptune was born July 22, 1767. He is sometimes known by his Penobscot name, Bungawarrawit. He died May 8, 1865. He was a leader of the Penobscot Nation for fifty years. Neptune was a shaman (m’teoulino, in the Penobscot language).
