Dandelions were not originally native to North America– the now-ubiquitous yellow flowers were brought over from Europe in the 1600′s. Dandelions spread across the continent rapidly, reaching the West Coast long before the Europeans themselves ever did, and became well-known by many tribes as a food item and medicine herb.
