She is best known for for her films such as Carmen Jones, Tomango, Porgy and Bess, and many more. Her mother Ruby Dandridge was a famous actress from 1900 until the 1950s. She was once married to Harold Nicholas, from the Nicholas Brothers.

This information is stated in Dorothy Dandridges autobiography called Everything and Nothing: The Dorothy Dandridge tragedy.
